How to Start Your Officiating Journey

Select the national hockey federation where you plan on officiating in. 

Officiating with Hockey Canada

There are 6 levels to become certified to officiate in Canada.
Level 1 - Intro to Officiating (For all officials under 15)
Level 2 - Developing into Officiating (Upgrade available for those 15 or older)
Level 3 - Senior Officials (Upgrade available based on Referee-in-Chief recommendation)
Level 4 - Member High Performance (Upgrade available based on branch needs)
Level 5 - Member High Performance (Upgrade based on branch)
Level 6 - National High Performance (Nominated from the branch and selected from Hockey Canada officiating program)

Step 2 - Contact the association's Referee-in-Chief (RIC) to express your interest and ask whether there are any open official positions.

Officiating in Central/Southwestern Ontario

Step 1 - There are 4 alliances for beginner officials within the OHF. Click on the alliance you want to register with:
1. Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario (ALLIANCE)
Covers Southwestern Ontario (cities like London, Kitchener, Waterloo, and Windsor).
2. Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL)
Covers the Greater Toronto Area, including Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham.
3. Northern Ontario Hockey Association (NOHA)
Covers everything from North Bay and Sudbury up to the Hudson Bay.
4. Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA)
The OMHA is the largest district by sheer number of towns. It covers the majority of Central, South Central, and Western Ontario (excluding the GTHL and Alliance territories).

Step 2 - Go to the association's website to fill out an application form or contact the association's Referee-in-Chief (RIC) to express your interest and ask whether there are any open official positions.
